The humane lie

Emma was just a baby bird when her legs started to go numb. By 10 weeks of age, she could no longer stand. When DxE investigators found her, she was crying out and closing her eyes as a horde of birds trampled her.

Over 8 million Californians voted for Proposition 2, which promised a cage-free future for animals suffering in factory farms. But footage from a major supplier of Trader Joe's, Safeway, and Costco shows that California voters have been deceived.

There has not been a single enforcement action in Prop 2's history. Animal control officers say they lack the most basic information needed to enforce the law.

CONSUMER FRAUD

While the public was promised cage-free, hens are still being raised in cramped cages that the industry refers to as “enriched colony” systems.

VIOLENCE

Millions of hens are mutilated, starved, and trampled to death in the crowded conditions on egg farms. None of them will ever see the sun or step outside.

USED LIKE MACHINES

Hens are forced to pump out an egg larger than their own head over 300 times a year. In the wild, they only lay 10-15. Millions die every year from eggs stuck and rotting in their own bodies.

DESPAIR

Chickens are highly social animals, yet they are denied any opportunity to bond in the cramped, filthy conditions.

DISPOSED LIKE TRASH

After a year of torment, hens are “spent” and cannot produce eggs. The industry literally throws them into bins where they will starve or suffocate.
