The Real Life of Chipotle's Chickens
A former Chipotle manager has secretly obtained footage tying the company to cruel factory farms where birds are starving, crowded, and collapsed on the floor of a filthy industrial shed. Contrary to the bucolic imagery in Chipotle ads and manuals, the investigation found thousands of birds confined in a single, filthy shed. Even as babies, the chicks are crowded together, and many were starving, injured, or dead.
Crowding
From the day they are born, chickens on the Bell and Evans farm are surrounded by thousands of other birds and never have a moment of peace.
Injury
Splay leg was a common injury in the barn as a result of being bred to grow rapidly, and the afflicted birds struggled to get to food or water.
Death
DxE investigators found many dead and rotting birds among the living, likely having died from disease or starvation.

DxE activists found Willow, a little bird with a crippled leg who was struggling to breathe, and they knew they couldn’t leave her behind to die in that barn.
UNABLE TO STAND
Investigators found Willow collapsed on the ground unable to stand or get to food.

A DxE investigator wrapped Willow in her arms and carried her out to freedom.
